Purchased Frigidaire Dehumidifier 50 Pint For My Basement

Purchased Frigidaire Dehumidifier 50 Pint For My Basement

July 19, 2010

Even though my air conditioning has been running non-stop for about 2 weeks, my basement is ridiculously damp and musty smelling, so today I purchased a 50 pint Frigidaire Dehumidifier to remedy the problem.

It took me half the day on what pint dehumidifier I needed and what brand to buy. Of course, I looked at reviews on the net on several different models. I noticed out of all the brands I checked out that the Frigidaire had the least amount of complaints along with many happy customers. The last piece of research that sold me on Frigidaire was a sales rep telling me they had several different brands they sold in the past but always came back to selling Frigidaire.

Let me tell you what I learned after cruising the net, calling on the phone, and visiting 3 stores. First, if you have a partitioned basement you will need a larger pint dehumidifier. Of course it takes a larger compressor to take care of the job. Second, a 35-pint is basically for a room or a small basement with lower humidity.

When I started up this baby about 7:00 tonight the humidity in my basement registered at 65%. At 8:30 tonight, it registered about 52%. I noticed the musty smell was gone and I could actually smell my unlit candles. Mind you, my basement is partitioned. I have a finished side partitioned from the wash area and a long hall with a half bath. I cannot tell you the rest of the basement is 52% but I can tell you it smells a whole lot better and I can actually feel a difference already. I checked out the bucket, and it is ¼ full.

You have to leave it on for 3 to 4 days continuously running to get a desired humidity. You need extreme dehumidifying since all your items such as furniture will be full of dampness that needs to be extracted.

Not like this is a deciding factor on purchasing this dehumidifier although I thought I would mention it is a pretty nice looking unit. It has nice coaster wheels to move it easily around and a handy handle.

It comes with a short, easy to read manual.

So far, I like what I see.

Stay tuned for more reviewing in a day or two or three on its performance.

July 20, 2010

My basement humidity this morning was 45%. Unbelievable. I decided shut of the continuous operation and set the humidity dial to 50%.

All day the humidity has stayed a steady 50%.

The water bucket was extremely easily to pull out, empty and replace back in unit.

So far in my opinion this dehumidifier is very efficient and seems solid.

I Have Been Using Magic Jack Over a Year

I Have Been Using Magic Jack Over a Year

I create websites on my spare time and I put information on them that needs phone verification. Most of the calls I make are long distance I needed a service that was inexpensive. I am trying to keep costs to a minimum so I did not want to invest in the pricey phone packages that my phone company offered just to get unlimited long distance.

I tried Skpe and I will tell you they have a quality service and it is cheaper than a lot of other long distance plans. Still, I needed something less expensive to cut down on my costs.

When I saw the MagicJack commercials I naturally thought it was too good to be true – you could make unlimited calls long distance nationwide for $19.95 a year, free phone number, free voice mail, free call waiting, caller id, and free directory assistance? I thought something had to be terribly flawed about the device or the service for that kind of value.  What is the catch?

I took the chance and bought one at my local Radio Shack for $39.99. The $39.99 includes one year of long distance plus price of device and comes with a short USB cable.

I plugged in the MagicJack in my USB port in my desktop computer. Dialing software automatically downloaded. I registered my information and was ready to make my first phone call. You can use a headset plugged into your computer and dial the number from the software or you can plug your regular telephone into the Magic Jack.

I plugged in my telephone in the Magic Jack and made my first call. I just couldn’t believe it! My first call was clear, no disconnects like I expected. I made my second call; I couldn’t even concentrate on what I was talking about to the person on the other end because of my excitement over the MagicJack. One call after another and it was working great. Very, very seldom do you get a number you have to dial twice to connect.

Since I really bought this to use calling to verifying information for my websites, I forgot about all the other features it came with. It really is a separate phone line. You can actually have people call your Magic Jack phone number and receive calls. When your phone is not plugged in, it will go straight to voicemail and you can retrieve the message through your email.

There is one thing I did not have success with, using just headphones. The calls did not connect well and very bad clarity. It may be my computers that are the problem, I cannot say. Although it works perfectly fine with my telephone.

By the way, the MagicJack works just as well on my wireless laptop as my hardwired desktop. You do need DSL or Cable internet to use MagicJack.

If you have been on the fence about trying MagicJack, you have nothing to loose by taking advantage of their 30-day free trial offer – use MagicJack for 30 days and pay nothing. Back when I bought this, if I could have tried it out with no risk, I would have jumped on it.

Computer Glasses – My Prescription My for Eyestrain Relief!

Computer Glasses – My Prescription My for Eyestrain Relief!

I don’t know about you but with years of being in front of the computer has left my eyes sensitive to light and glare. And the new computer screens with their high gloss surface are just added punishment to already exhausted eyes. Fortunately I have older style matte screened laptop that is a lot kinder to the eyes.

I searched the net to find a computer glass prescription that would take care of the problem. Mostly, I found an anti-glare coating was used. I was told by one eyeglass place that would solve my problem. Since I have anti-glare on my long distance glasses I was familiar with the coating. Just as an experiment, I wore my long distance glasses to work a short time on my computer. Of course, I could not see as well as with my reading glasses but I could function. I found even with the anti glare glasses and turning the light down on my monitor, the lighting on my computer was still irritating.

Experiment 2: My goal was to tone down the brightness of my screen and still being able to see my computer screen well. I had a pair of sunglasses with light pink lenses. I wore them over my reading glasses working on my computer. It was stupid looking but I did not care my eyes were relieved. I know I was on my way to putting together the perfect computer glasses for myself.

The next day I called the place I usually get eyeglasses and asked them if I could have a pair of computer glasses made with anti glare and a light tint. They said I had to have one or the other but not both. I called another place and they said they could absolutely do it.

The computer glasses they put together for me had anti glare on one side of the lens and a 10% brown tint on the other side. The eyeglass place I went to had tint samples that I could look through. I tested each tint in front of a computer screen. I decided on the brown since it did tone down the light but actually sharpened the images and text. The optometrist also suggested the brown lens for the same reason.

Another important part of the script for computer glasses is to make sure to estimate how far away you work from the computer. I measured with a tape measure how far away I sat from my laptop and gave the measurements to my ophthalmologist.

As you can see, I did not choose a beautiful frame. I did not want the teeny tiny lenses that all the fashionable glasses are these days. I wanted eye relief and big lenses where I could see just glass and not frames. Yes they are ugly but I really don’t care. They relieved my eyes tremendously.
